As we discussed in our meeting last week, we’ll get this blog up and going more fully in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we wanted to get everyone used to the idea of coming here to find out what’s going on in the South LA community so we may support one another in all our grassroots, “Greening” of South LA efforts.

The LA Food Policy Task Force did set this Wednesday as the date for its first meeting with the broader community. They write: We’ve confirmed a “listening session” for Wednesday, April 7, 6-8 p.m. at Community Health Councils (3731 Stocker Street). PLEASE JOIN US for this unique opportunity to dialogue and make recommendations on how we can make LARGE-scale changes in the industry.

For this month:
Jennie Cook and RootDown LA will kick-off this year’s first Mystery Lunch Box Cook-off at Jefferson High School, Tuesday April 27th at 3:30. Subsequent cooking classes on Tuesdays, May 4th and 11th at 3:30 culminate in a cook-off Saturday May 15th (time and place TBA). Come cheer on our local youth as they learn to cook up healthy affordable meals based on whatever shows up in their mystery produce boxes! Contact rootdownla (at) gmail (dot)com for more information.
Santee Education Complex’s Global Debate Team and the Venice High Art Department co-host a collaborative art project with schools across LA to raise awareness of the important issue of climate change and its impact on the world. This project invites educators and students to envision a world where positive change has taken place to combat negative effects from climate change. Submissions will be displayed at City Hall and at an Environmental Expo hosted at Santee. Submissions due April 17th, 2010.
